She was a longtime member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. Irene was born in Sevierville September 12, 1928 to George and Bonnie Barnes. She moved to Knoxville where she attended and graduated from St. Mary’s as an RN. She worked at the TB hospital for 30 years and then several other hospitals until her health began to fail in 1990. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers George and Jack Barnes, nephew, Scotty Barnes. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law: Jody and Allen Roach, of Corryton Grandchildren: Steven Gilbert, Heather Roach (Jerrod Smith) Jonathan Roach, all of Knoxville Great Grandchildren: Brittany Roach, Derek Thomson, Justus Smith, Alexis Roach, Austin and Anthony Roach Sisters-in-law: Flo Lee and Pat Barnes, much loved nieces Elizabeth Griffin and Jeanne Bryant Life long friend and mentor: Milbrey Hinrichs Many thanks to her friends that visited and sent cards and her hospice nurses Becky and Tish In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, “Missions Program” 701 Merchants Dr. Knoxville, TN 37912. Family and friends will meet 3PM Thursday at Millican Grove Cemetery for graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends from 5-6PM Friday at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church with celebration of life service to follow at 6PM with Reverend Kent Williams officiating.
