Barnes, Jr., George – age 84 – of South Knoxville, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008, quietly in his sleep. George was a member of Meridian Baptist Church and the South Knoxville Optimist Club; former Chairman of the Metropolitan Planning Commission, former President of the South Knoxville Republican Club and Chairman of the 27th Precinct. He was a Sergeant in the Air Force as a Radio Operator on a B24 in WWII. George was also a graduate of the University of Tennessee working as an Engineer and former Personnel Director of Robertshaw Controls. Preceded in death by parents George Barnes, Sr. and Bonnie Kerr Barnes.
Survivors
Survived by wife, Flo Lee DeLozier Barnes; daughters, Elizabeth Barnes Griffin and Jeanne Barnes Bryant; grandsons, David and Alex Bryant; great-grandchild, Jadyn Bryant; brother, Jack Barnes; sister, Irene Hillard; niece, Jody Hillard Roach.
Service
Funeral 8 PM Monday, September 15, 2008, Berry Chapel. Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. Interment will be 11 AM Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Shiloh Cemetery, Pigeon Forge. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. The family will receive friends 6-8 Pm Monday in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway
