Mary Ruth Proffitt, age 77 of Sevierville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pigeon Forge and had been owner/operator of the Big Bear Restaurant for 10 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Despite her many illnesses, she never let it get her down and her smile could light up a room.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Jill Proffitt; parents Richard and Oda Jane Barker; sisters and brothers-in-law Helen and Lillard Allen, Blanche and Bart Williams and Wanda Barker; sister-in-law Deanna Barker.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Cogdill; son Todd Proffitt; grandchildren Billy Cogdill (Courtney), Brittany Ashe (Amanda), and Peyton, Sydney and Parker Proffitt; great-grandsons Jakob Cogdill, Carson and Braylon Raney; brothers Richard Barker, Paul Barker (Eva), Bob Barker (Ronnie); sisters Betty Jo Thomas, Sharon Stoffle (Jerry) and a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by special friends Sue Rolen, Cathy Debona, Faye and Luther Brackins, Brenda Whaley and Dorothy Middleton.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Caris Healthcare and the staff of Sevierville Health and Rehabilitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville TN 37909.
The family will receive friends 4-6:45 PM Friday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev. Kent Loveday and Rev.
