He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and numerous other medals. He was retired from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He was a long time member of Glades Lebanon Baptist Church. Zelmer was a loving husband, father, papaw, brother, and uncle. He was loved and cherished by many. He was preceded in death by his son, Roy; parents Arch and Haley Ball; sister, Viola Ball Cardwell; and brothers, Tillery, Carl, Elmer, Garland, and Raymond Ball. He is survived by: Wife of 58 years: Nell Ball Daughters and Sons-in-law: Martha and John Eachus of Gatlinburg, Mary and Clarence Russell of Kodak, Haley and Bill Bostic of Gatlinburg, Edith and Robert Tyler of Florida, Elinor and Russell Mullin of Arkansas Sons and Daughter-in-law: Ralph and Mary Jo Ball of Wisconsin, David Ball of Sevierville Special Grandchildren: Rachel and Benny Proffitt Special Nephew: J.T.
