ATCHLEY, JOSEPH BIRDWELL "J.B." - age 82 of Maryville, formerly of Sevierville, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005. He was a veteran of World War II having survived a tour of duty in the European theater. He was a decorated infantry soldier in Europe during World War II. After the war he was given commendations for capturing Nazi War Criminals. He worked at Ryan's Aeronautical that built lunar landers for the Apollo program. He was a talented musician known for his ability to play a guitar and sing. He graduated from Knoxville Business School and worked in the aircraft industry in San Diego, CA for almost 20 years.
He is preceded in death by a large family who all lived in Sevierville for many years; his father, Rev. Joe Atchley, his mother and many brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his two children, Joyce Taylor-Lane of Alcoa and Joey Atchley and his wife, Tracy of Maryville. He was "Papaw" to four grandsons, Dylan Lane and Jordan, Evan, and David Atchley. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was always close to God in life and he surely sits by his side today.
Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Franklin officiating. The interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
