James Blaine "Jim" Atchley, co-owner of the longtime family-owned Atchley(Funeral Home in Sevierville, died of an apparent heart attack at his home Saturday morning.
Mr. Atchley, 45, began having chest pains and died before medical personnel got him to the hospital, family members said. He had become co-owner when his father, Blaine, died seven months ago.
The funeral home was begun in Sevierville in 1920 by James H. Atchley, the father of Blaine and his brother, Harold, who is still an owner.
"Jim" Atchley was a past president of the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce, former member of the Sevier County Electric System board of directors, past president of the Sevierville Optimist Club, was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.
He leaves his wife, Kay Trotter Atchley; two daughters, Leslie Maples and Kristi Conner; one grandson, Blake; his mother, Louise Atchley, and a sister, Becky Bussmann.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Atchley's Chapel with burial in Shiloh Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Sevierville Building Fund.
