KOONTZ, CARL M. - age 83, of Alcoa, died Monday, December 11, 2000 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was an active member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church where he held many offices, was a veteran of World War II, was retired from ALCOA where he was Accounting Manager of Tenn. Operations and was a member of the 25 Year Service Club. Mr. Koontz was a member of the Alcoa Rotary Club, and was past president of 3 Rotary Clubs in 3 states. He had a perfect attendance for over 40 years in Rotary. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, was the first Tenn. businessman to participate in Governor Lamar Alexanders Executive on Loan Program to the Tenn. Board of Correction, he was founder of the Smoky Mountain Passion Play and was Chairman of the Board of Alcoa Bank. He was a member of numerous charitable and community organizations including American Red Cross, Dismus House, United Way, Child and Family Services, Gideons, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. James Luther Koontz; mother, Mattie Ban Koontz; brothers, Roy, John and Herbert. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, June Endsley Koontz; son and daughter in law, Dr. William and Bonnie Koontz of Prospect, Ky.; daughter and son in law, Karol and Larry Fowler of Alcoa; grandchildren, Jamie, Sarah, Jennifer, Jason and Jeff Fowler of Alcoa, Rachel and Carl Koontz of Prospect, Ky.; brother and sister in law, Bill and Betty Koontz of Maryville; sisters, Margaret Leatherwood of Sevierville, Tressie Keyes of Miamisburg, Ohio; sister in law, Ruth Koontz of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. The body was cremated. A memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Alcoa First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Green, Rev. Joe Green, Rev. J. Castro Smith and Rev. Robert Temple officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The family request no flowers. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund of Alcoa First United Methodist Church, 617 Gilbert, Alcoa, Tenn. 37701. McCammons-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in charge.
