Leonard P. "Len" Baggett, age 80 of Kodak passed away Saturday, December 16, 2006.
He was born in Danville, VA, on March 9, 1926. Len served in the United States Army during WW II, retired after 31 years in the Naval Security Engineering Field. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in East Thomas Street Baptist Church at the age of 11. He was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church and a member of the Jefferson County Gideon Camp.
He was preceded in death by his son: Wesley Baggett; brothers: Walton Baggett, John Baggett, and Gordon Baggett, sister: Dorothy Chaney.
He is survived by his wife: Mary "Polly" Baggett, son: Michael Baggett and wife Audrey of Florida; step-son: David McGill and wife Traci of Kodak; step-daughter Ann Hancock and husband Bobby of Kodak; Grandchildren: Robbie McGill of Kodak, Leia Gilbert and husband Jason of Dandridge, Rev. Bobby Joe Hancock and wife Whitney of Rogersville; great grandchildren: Caleb Gilbert, Brady and Brysen Hancock. Sisters: Lou Burnett of Virginia, Fanny Broughman of Fort Smith, AR, Virginia Larrimore and husband Larry of Fort Smith, AR, sister in law: Francis Baggett of Virginia Beach, VA, and his best friend Earl Smith.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Baptist Hospice, and Ms Doe and Ella Ruth for the love and kindness they have shown for Len.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, December 18, 2006 at Beech Springs Baptist Church from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Services will begin at 8:00 PM Monday with the Reverends Jerry Vittatoe and Bobby Hancock officiating. The Body will lie in state at Beech Springs Church Tuesday Morning December 19, 2006 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM where family and friends will gather to travel to the Beech Springs Cemetery for the interment service beginning at 11:00 AM.
Members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class of Beech Springs Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers Len requested that memorials be made to the Jefferson County Gideon Camp P.O. Box 1245 Dandridge, TN 37725 in order that God's Holy Word may be spread to all nations.
