Maggie Grooms Phillips, 75, of Newport, passed away late Saturday afternoon at Lakeway Regional Hospital in Morristown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellie Hooper Grooms; brothers, Edgar and Jerry Grooms; and sister, Mamalee Costner.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred Phillips of Newport; sons and daughters-in-law, Buster and Carolyn Phillips of Morristown, Roy and Ann Phillips of Bogard, J.R. and Rachael Phillips of New Market, Randy and Rita Phillips of Newport, and Michael and Wanda Phillips of Bybee; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Rev. J.L. Sutton of Bogard, Wanda and Fred Lane of Morristown, Jan Kirkpatrick of Morristown, and Bobbie Phillips of Newport; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; stepmother, Queenie Grooms of Cosby; sisters, Hazel Sutton of Cleveland, Ohio, Shirley McGaha of Newport, and Robin O’Reilly of Newport; and brothers, Johnny, Lawrence and Terry Grooms of Cosby.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Sutton and Rev. J.L. Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Ogle Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at Manes Funeral Home.
