Ruby Baxter turns 90
Ruby Baxter celebrated her 90th birthday with friends at Newport Shoney's Restaurant on Tuesday, March 27. She turned 90 on March 24 and was born on Cosby to Mr. and Mrs. Davis Ogle. Their other children were Fred and Paul Ogle, and Margaret Ogle. Ruby married Smith Baxter, now deceased. She worked at Oak Ridge during World War II, and then the couple moved to Ohio for work. Smith joined Ford Motor Company and Ruby worked for GM's Chevrolet division until retiring in the 1980s. They have no children and she resides at Wellington Place. At the birthday party were her sister-in-law, Selma Ogle; and nieces Beth Ogle Freeman and Manzenita Sutton.

Ruby Ogle Baxter, age 91, of Newport, passed away, Thursday, January 16, 2014. She attended Parkway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Sherman Baxter; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and James Snider; brothers, Fred Ogle and Paul Ogle; sister-in-law, Bethna Ball; half-sister Verdie Ogle Webb; half-brothers, Kenneth, George and Edert Ogle. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Selma Ogle of Newport; a special friend, Ruth Whitlock; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Saturday, January 18, 2014 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Glenn Ball and Rev. Ed Parton officiating. Burial will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, January 19, 2014 in Ogle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Saturday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
