Self, Lida Townsend, age 80, of South Knoxville passed away at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Holston Healthcare Center. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where she worked for 49 years in the Continuing Education Department. She was a charter member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church and was the church’s first organist and was still playing part time until her recent illness. Preceded in death by parents, Ottis and Queenie Townsend.
Survivors
Husband of 53 years, James B. Self; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Chester Hood; grandsons, Steven and Philip Hood; sisters-in-law, Barbara and husband, Vance Broyles; Katherine and husband, N.E. Burleson, Jr.; brother-in-law, George David Self; special cousins, Mildred McPherson and Shirley and Millie Townsend; special friend, Irma Keith.
Service
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM at Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 7:30 PM with Dr. Hollie Miller and Dr. David Abernathy officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:00 AM Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery for graveside services. Pallbearers will be J.N. Burgin, Bernard Fowler, Dewey Ownby, Curtis Elder, John Clapp, and Shirley Townsend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sevier Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 3232 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920. Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
