Glenn W. McCarter, Sr., 90, of Escondido, CA passed away Monday, May 12, 2003 at Valle Vista Convalescent Hospital.
Mr. McCarter had lived a very interesting life while also serving his country. He started his career on the oceans of the world by serving four years in the United States Navy. After serving in the navy he joined the Merchants Marine where he served for 38 years. During his service during WWII he was on three ships that the enemy sunk. Along with serving his country he was a long time member of Webbs Creek United Methodist Church. Although he lived most of his life at sea, his heart was always in the Smoky Mountains where he grew up and loved.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis J, Sr. and Martha H. McCarter; brothers, Clyde E. and E.J. McCarter, Jr; sisters, Iva Faye Williams and Lucille Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Lois V. Allen McCarter of Escondido, CA; son, Glenn W. McCarter, Jr. and wife Frances of Gatlinburg; sister, Viola McCarter of Gatlinburg. Besides the immediate family, Glenn left behind several nieces, nephews and other relatives whose lives he has touched.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2003 at Huskey Cemetery with Rev. Andy Ball officiating. Everyone should meet at the cemetery prior to the service to visit with the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
