CRIPPEN, DANIEL W. - age 85, of 1500 Exeter Ave. Knoxville, departed this life Sunday, December 10, 2000, 8:05 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital. He was preceded in death by parents Webster and Josie Johnson Crippen and wife Marie Branner Crippen. Daniel was joined in holy matrimony with Marie Branner Crippen in 1940. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the France Campaigns and rose to the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge he was employed by Southern Railroad until his retirement in 1980. Daniel was a faithful and dedicated member of Oak Grove, A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as Trustee, member of the Steward Board, member of the choir and held various other positions for many years. He is survived by: devoted sister-in-law Anna B. Nance and devoted nephews Alfred L. Nance (caregivers) and Donald M. Miller; devoted nieces: Veronica (Leroy) Mitchell and Wilma ( Roy ) Branner Davis, Detroit, Mich.; Great-nephew: Wesley Andrew Mitchell of Alexandria, VA; Brother-in-law: Pearson (Vivian) Branner ; devoted cousins, Mable Johnson Tate, Dr. Theora Jamison, Barbara (Dr. Eddie S.) Moore and Jamesena Watson. Caregiver: Sarah Blue Jackson and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Devoted friends to include Donald Cunningham and the Odell Harris family. Family will receive friends Saturday, December 16, 2000, 12:00 noon at Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church. Services will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Herman Poindexter officiating. The family will assemble at 1500 Exeter Ave. Knoxville, Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 at 11 a.m. The body may be viewed at Highland Memorial South. Military Entombment Highland (South).
