Amma Kate (Katie) Morgan, age 76, of Newport, passed away on Sunday June 24th , 2012, after a brief illness. Affectionately known as, “Miss Katie”, she was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ora Huff, and brother, Jimmy Ray Huff. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wiley Morgan; daughter, Susan Mason, and husband Pat of Newport; son, Bruce Morgan and wife Cheryl; granddaughter, Laura Mason Kiser and husband Wayne, and grandson Randal Porter Morgan, all of Morristown; sisters, Maude Ellen Rolen of Christiansburg, VA; Virginia and Ron Whaley of Hickory, NC; brothers, George Huff of Jones Cove, and Danny and Alice Huff of Collinsville, IL; special cousin, Helen Gorman of Newport; also several nieces and nephews. She was a stay at home mom until the family moved back to Newport in 1973. She worked for many years as Department Store Manager at Roses’ winning the “Department Manager of the Year” award in 1985, for the entire company. She also worked as a clerk at Belk until the store closed. One of her most loved positions was the Assistant Teacher for the Early Education Program at First Baptist Church. She was a kind soul and the children always loved her. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Newport. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 28th, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel from 5-8 pm with funeral service at 8:00 pm, with Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating. Burial will be Friday, June 29th, 2012 at10:00 am, in the Huff Cemetery in Jones Cove.
