Myrtle Fowler Smelcer, 77, of Sevierville, Tenn., passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. Mrs. Smelcer was a devout Christian and a Baptist by faith. Her husband, Buford B. Smelcer, daughter Judy Fox and brothers Stewart and Frank Fowler preceded Myrtle in death. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Garner and husband Robert, son and daughter-in-law David and Sibyl Shearin Smelcer, all of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Daniel Richard and William David Smelcer of Winston-Salem and Hollie Garner Hughes and husband Eric of Newton; great-grandchildren Garner and Zachary Hughes of Newton; brother Ralph Fowler and wife Colleen of Louisville, Tenn.; and sisters-in-law Elise Fowler of Michigan and Bernice Fowler of Sevierville. She will be greatly missed by several nieces, nephews and a host of loving neighbors and friends. Service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Rawlings Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Stevan McClure officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Rawlings Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge Cemetery Fund, 3290 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863. Rawlings Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to make the final arrangements for Mrs. Smelcer.
