LEIBROCK, FRANCES RICHARDSON - passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2003. She was born Frances Ellen Richardson on August 6, 1912 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. Mrs. Leibrock attended Mary Baldwin College, graduated from Lincoln Memorial University and did graduate work in Library Science at The University of Tennessee. She was a life-long educator who began her teaching career in Cumberland Gap. She married Ed Leibrock and moved to Newport, Tennessee in 1939. After raising four children, Mrs. Leibrock resumed her teaching career at Newport Grammar School where she taught fifth grade and established the first centralized elementary school library in Newport. Mrs. Leibrock was a founding member of Friends of Stokely Memorial Library, a member of The United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Retired Teachers of Cocke County and member-emeritus of The Newport Garden Club. She will be remembered for her love of life, for instilling in her students the love of reading and the importance in education and for promoting the development and use of libraries in Cocke County. She was preceded in death by Ed Leibrock, her husband of 56 years. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Frank and Cindy Leibrock of Fort Collins, Colorado, William and Charlotte Leibrock of Newport, Ellen and Paul Shelton of Knoxville and John Leibrock and Karen McCoy of San Antonio sisters, Nell R. Barco of Jupiter, Florida grandson, Mac and wife, Heather Leibrock granddaughters, Charlotte Ann Leibrock and Jocelyn Shelton ad a great-granddaughter, Olivia Leibrock. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home in Newport. A private graveside memorial service will be held on Monday. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Leibrock requested that donations be made to the Stockely memorial Library, 383 East Broadway, Newport, TN 37821.
