Billy Salisbury Burchfiel, age 82 of Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 11, 2018. Billy believed in Jesus and often prayed for his family and friends.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a Mason. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing and set goals to be the best in all he did. Whether it was growing a garden, hunting, playing cards, water skiing, badminton, or fishing, he would beat you at least once, and just smile.
Billy never met a stranger and his smile, stories and humor will be greatly missed – there will never be another like him.
Billy was preceded in death by the love of his life of 55 years, Mary (Reese) Burchfiel; his parents, Ralph and Gladys Burchfiel.
Billy was an only child, but had the pleasure, through marriage, of gaining seven sisters and brothers-in-law and their spouses, who he loved dearly.
Survivors include his children, Beverly (Allen) Doane, Dwayne Burchfiel, Don Burchfiel, and Diana Gibbs; grandchildren, Jennifer Naillon, Jason (Angela) Seaton, Megan (Bryant) Burchfiel-Gilson, Austin Burchfiel, and Kristin Burchfiel; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Teagan, and Zion Naillon; step-great-grandchildren, Madison, Caitlyn, and Nhyle Helman; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends to Billy and his family, Frances Batson, who has been given the title “Saint” by the Burchfiel family.
The family extends a very special “thank you” to Shirley Burchfiel for her friendship and care. And special thanks to many others who were there for Billy throughout his life.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday, March 15th with the funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. David Newman and Rev. Larry Henry officiating. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Friday in Allen Cemetery for the graveside service and interment. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post # 104.
