Mary R. Burchfiel
September 10, 1933 - December 27, 2010
Birthplace: Jefferson County, Tennessee
Resided In: Sevierville, Tennessee
Visitation: December 29, 2010
Service: December 29, 2010
Cemetery: Allen Cemetery
Mary R. Burchfiel, age 77 of Sevierville, went from being surrounded by her loving family at home to being welcomed into heaven on Monday, December 27, 2010 due to complications from Alzheimer disease and being a brittle diabetic. Mrs. Burchfiel retired from Sevier County Hospital after more than twenty years of service where she comforted and cared for the women and newborns as an OB nurse. She was a member of Sims Chapel Baptist Church.
With a reputation of being a great cook and an avid Tennessee Vols fan, Mary was known more for being a devoted wife of 56 years, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to anyone she met. Her love for God and gospel music will continue to live on for generations by the example to how Mary lived her life in front of others and while at home.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Paul and Ida Reese, brothers Holland and Ulyss Reese, and sister Estelle Teague.
She is survived by her husband Bill Burchfiel, daughter Beverly and husband Allen Doane, sons Dwayne Burchfiel and Lisa Maner, Don Burchfiel and wife Wendy, former daughter-in-law Shirley Burchfiel, grandchildren Jennifer and Todd Naillon, Jason Seaton, Megan Burchfiel, Austin and Kristin Burchfiel, Paige Stanton, great-grandchildren Brooke, Gabby, Teagan, and Zion Naillon, Braelayn Stanton, sisters Faye Owens, Addie Smelcer, Pheobie Shropshire, Georgia Douglas, many nieces, nephews, and friends, and special friend of the family Frances Batson.
A special thank you to devoted caregivers Lisa Maner, Frances Batson, and Shirley Burchfiel, along with hospice nurses Cindy and Pam who became dear friends. Also a special thank you to the other Amedisys hospice workers.
Mary will be missed and greatly loved by all who knew her. Welcome to Heaven, Mary!
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Melvin Carr will officiate. Family and friends will meet 11 AM Thursday in Allen Cemetery for interment. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
