Cody seeks re-election as Sessions Court Clerk
Frankie "Peachie" Cody has announced her bid for re-election at Cocke County Sessions Court Clerk.
She was appointed clerk in June 1996 at the death of Clerk Charlotte Barnes and has been clerk for the last 14 years. Since that time, the office has been completely computerized. This office handles traffic citations, criminal warrants, and criminals' summons from the City of Newport, Cocke County Sheriff's Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Tennessee Wildlife Agency. The office also has small claims (civil warrants) under $25,000.
For the year July 2008 thru June 2009 (last audit), Sessions Court has collected over $1.2 million dollars, sending $663,812 to the County Trustee; $271,152, the State of Tennessee; $20,117 to the City of Newport; and $328,459 paid out in judgements.
In 2008, the Cocke County Legislative Body added Juvenile Court to the responsibilities of the Sessions Court Clerk. This includes child support, custody, visitation, criminal matters, and trust accounts. That office has receipts of over $101,000, with payout of $23,054, to the county; $8456 to the State of Tennessee; $515 to the City of Newport; and $68,225 in restitution and trust accounts.
Cody is the daughter of Neil and the late Barbara Heatherly and the mother of Jeanna Williams, Jamie Cody and the late Shayne Woodson. She is the grandmother of Dustin, Tyler, Cameron, Lindsey, Cody, and Shayne. She attended Edgemont School and Cocke County High School. She attends Wilsonville Baptist Church.

Cody announces candidacy for Clerk of Session
NEWPORT-Cocke County Sessions Court Clerk Frankie “Peachie” Cody has announced her candidacy for re-election in the upcoming May 7 Republican Primary.
Cody started working in the Juvenile Court office in 1991 as a bookkeeper, after which she was hired as deputy clerk under the late sessions court clerk, Charlotte Barnes, in 1992.
Cody served as deputy clerk until Barnes' death in 1996, after which she was appointed clerk until she was elected to the position in August, 1996. She was then re-elected in 1998.
Since becoming sessions court clerk, Cody said she has initiated a defensive driving class, certified by the Tennessee Department of Safety, which has been attended by 1,242 people. Cody said that the driving school has generated $37,260 for the county.
Cody also said that she has saved the county $15,000 by applying to the state and having received computers at no cost.
Cody said that her office handles all traffic citations from the Cocke County Sheriff's Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Wildlife officers, county constables, the United States Forest Service, Alcoholic Beverage Commission officers, and the Newport Police Department.
The sessions court clerk's office also issues criminal warrants, show cause warrants, and criminal summons, as well as small claims cases, detainer warrants, orders of protection, and writs of possession, according to Cody.
Cody also said that her office keeps a docket for the sessions court judge and records preliminary hearings, as well as keeping records of the sessions court judge's rulings.
The sessions court clerk's office, according to Cody, has collected fines, fees, and judgements in the last six years in the amount of $4,356,466.
Of that amount, Cody said that her office has paid $2,020,141 to Cocke County; $1,009,556 to the State of Tennessee; $199,840 to the City of Newport; and $1,030,245 in judgements.
Cody said she is a life-long native of Cocke County and attended Edgemont Elementary School and Cocke County High School.
She is the daughter of Neil and the late Barbara Heatherly, and has three children-the late Shayne Woodson, Jeanna Hemminger, and Jamie Naillon.
Cody's grandchildren are Dustin, Tyler, Cameron, Lindsey, Cody, and Shayne.
She said she attends Wilsonville Baptist Church.
Cody said that “It has been a great honor to serve the citizens of Cocke County as the sessions court clerk for the past six years.
“I am very thankful to all the people who elected me to this office and I will try to continue to serve each and every one of you,” she said.
“I also want to thank the people of Cocke County for their confidence in me to do the job this office requires and to my staff for their loyalty and hard work,” said Cody.
Cody is running unopposed in the primary election.
“I would appreciate your complimentary vote on May 7 to show your faith in my ability to serve you as your Cocke County Sessions Court Clerk for the next four years,” she said.
