U.S. Veteran Mr. Billy Eugene Lawson, age 82, of Newport, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents Anderson and Willie Mae Lawson, brothers Frank Lawson and William Anderson Lawson, and sisters OGreta Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a United States Army veteran and also served in the Merchant Marines for 16 years. He retired from American Enka after several years of service. He is survived by his wife Linda Lawson of South Carolina, sons Billy Eugene Lawson, Jr. and Craig Lawson, daughter Marie Owens, grandchildren Derrick Kirkpatrick, Ashley Owens and Stephanie Owens, all of Newport; great-grandchildren Austin, Christian, and Harley Kirkpatrick and Avery Cornwell, brother and sister-in-law R. T. and Joy Lawson of Newport, brother Steve Lawson of Dayton, Ohio, and sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Jess R. Conway of Newport. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Faubion Cemetery with the Rev. James McFalls officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Saturday at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
