Henegar Dooley Buckner, Sr. age 81 of Knoxville, a retired chemical engineer, as well as a veteran of World War II, died of natural causes August 12, 2006 at his home in Knoxville. Mr. Buckner was born and raised in the Bybee area , and graduated from Carson-Newman College with a B.S. in chemistry after serving in the US Army during World War II. While at Carson-Newman College, he studied chemistry and chemical engineering and was captain of the tennis team.
His long and productive career in the fields of chemical engineering and technical sales began with Foote Mineral Company, followed by Ladd Engineering , Inc., of Paducah, Ky., H.T. Hackney, and Kel-San. He resided in west Knoxville for much of his life, and subsequently moved to the Fountain City area. He remained an avid vintage car collector and enthusiast and tennis player throughout his life.
He is survived by his sister Lerneda Buckner of Knoxville, former wife Margy Rayburn of Etowah, and his children H. Dooley Buckner, Jr., of Knoxville and Dr. Alyson Buckner Wells of Baltimore, Maryland.
Graveside services will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday August 19, 2006 at Union Cemetery in Newport, Tennessee.
