  [S25] Smith Mortuary Company, www.smithmortuary.com, 29 Dec 2001. Tipton, Murphy Lee age 80 of Maryville, died Saturday, December 29, 2001 at his home. He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company and a member of ALCOA 25-Year Club. He was born in Cades Cove off of the Lead Cove Trail on September 18, 1921. Mr. Tipton worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Cades Cove and other surrounding areas where he assisted with building many of the rock walls and bridges that are currently still standing. He served in WWII and was an avid outdoors man enjoying hiking, camping, hunting, trout fishing and gardening. Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his parents, Jabe H. Tipton and Alice Sands Tipton; brother, Roy Tipton; sisters, Ethel Hembree Tipton and Velma Ownby Tipton. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Wanda Aileen Tipton; daughters & sons-in-law, Wanda & Bill Vaughn of Knoxville, Tricia & Bill Fogarty of Farragut; son & daughter-in-law, Jimmy & Kim Tipton of Friendsville; grandchildren, Donnie & Derrick Pendley, Brooke & Austin Fogarty; great-grandchildren, Zack & Haven Pendley; sister, Mae Lawson of Sevierville; several nieces, nephews and many special friends. Funeral service 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2001, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary with the eulogy to be offered by Wanda Vaughn. The interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Cades Cove Preservation Association, 1271 Old Cades Cove Rd., Townsend, TN 37882.
