Earl Ernest Carrell, age 86, died Monday morning after a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Clara Baxter Carrell and daughter, Kaye Eileen McMahan.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Bell Carrell; son, Charles Rodney Carrell; daughter, Anna Leigh Norton and her son, Joshua Norton; and Thomas Michael McMahan, Matthew Scott McMahan and Alicia Marie McMahan, children of his deceased daughter, Kaye McMahan.
Mr. Carrell had served in a number of capacities during his lifetime. He began as a Machinist Apprentice and retired from the Alcoa Aluminum Company after 39 years. He was an official of the first elected Alcoa Board of Education (1969-1977); a Trustee of the Chilhowee Baptist Association; on the Board of Directors at the Blount County Children's Home; and spent 19 years as Superintendent of Adult III Dept. of Sunday School at First Baptist Alcoa. Earl was a Devotional Leader of the WBCCI Trailer Club. He was a "Fisher of Men" to fishermen in Alaska; a Veteran of the US Air Force serving during WWII. He was a teacher of grades 1-12 at Brown's School in Cocke County; formerly a surveyor for the State of Tennessee, and was employed by the Post Office in Newport. His joy was working with wood, especially grandfather clocks.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at First Baptist Alcoa, with Pastor Richard Holden and Rev. Henry Linginfelter officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, for a graveside service, located on Alcoa Highway (Hwy 129) without having a procession.
