Charles Clifford Carrell, 84, of Newport, died Sunday evening at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. He was a member of the English Creek Baptist Church and a retired employee of Rhyne Lumber Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. and Clara Melissa Baxter Carrell; brother, James Clyde "Peanut" Carrell; sister, Uila Carrell; and sisters-in-law, Betty Carrell and Helen Cooper. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Cooper Carrell of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Ila Ruth and Earl Edmonds of Newport; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Chris and Christy Edmonds of Newport and Jeff and Rachael Edmonds of Raleigh, North Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl E. and Marie Carrell of Alcoa, Arnie Carrell and Hollis "Frosty" and Jean Carrell of Newport; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth C. Holt, G. Hugh (Hootie) Holt of Alcoa, John Cooper of Newport, and Anna Roe Carrell of Newport; and special friends, Herman Hall, James Bryant, and Floyd Belcher. Funeral service will be 8 p.m. Monday at the Manes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Smith and the Rev. M.L. White officiating. Family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Union Cemetery. Manes Funeral Home is in charge.
