Georgia Wood Bryant, age 90, formerly of Newport, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006 in Kingsport, TN. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Iliff (Babe) Bryant; parents, Carl and Bertha Cothran Wood; and brother, Johnnie Wood. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Jim Ashton of Fall Branch, TN; grandchildren and spouses, Marla and Matt Freeman of Bristol, TN, Meredith and Kevin Powell of Nashville, TN; great grandchild, Sydney Freeman of Bristol, TN; sister, Frankie Scolari of Reno, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Aubrey Wood, Orlando, Florida, Letty Bryant, Newport, TN; special friend and roommate, Gloria Belcher; also special nieces and nephew. We would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Wexford House and to Eleanor and Candass with Adventa Hospice. Funeral services will be held 3:30 pm Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Wood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm prior to the funeral services at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1708 Indian Cave Road, Newport, TN 37821, Oak Glen Baptist Church, Oak Glen Circle, Fall Branch, TN. 37656, or The Wexford House, 2421 John B. Dennis Highway, Kingsport, TN 37660.
