Wright announces candidacy for constable in Second District
Derek Eugene Wright, age 31, has announced his candidacy for the Second District Cocke County Constable.
Wright has lived in the Parrottsville community all his life.
He is the son of Eugene Wright and Trudy Huff Wright. Eugene graduated from Cocke County High School. Trudy graduated from Parrottsville High School.
Wright's grandparents are Howell and Frankie Wright, from Newport, the late Jess Huff and Mary E. Huff, from Parrottsville, and great-grandmother the late Lilly Cogburn from the Rock Hill community. Wright's uncle and aunt are Ron Mooneyhan and Beth Huff Mooneyhan from Parrottsville. Wright's step-mom is Janelle Lewis Wright from Newport.
Wright attended Parrottsville Elementary and graduated from Cocke County High School in 1997. He attended Walter State Community College and is currently awaiting graduation with an associates degree in criminal justice.
Wright also graduated the Walter State Regional Law Enforcement Academy in 2005 and has an active state certification by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission.
Wright began his career with Hardees in 1995 in Newport and worked on and off for 15 yeas. He is currently a Hardees general manager in one of the Sevierville stores.
Wright was a volunteer with the Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department from 2002 to 2005.
Wright has five years experience in law enforcement. In May 2006 he was hired on as a deputy with the Cocke County Sheriff's Department and worked there until April 2008, Wright was a patrolman with the Newport Police Department.
Wright was named "2008 Police Officer of the Year" by the Newport Kiwanas Club.
"I gained a lot of knowledge and experience with both departments and was given the opportunity to work with some great people. During my law enforcement career I worked on a number of different cases from thefts, home burglaries, armed robberies, murder investigations, stolen vehicles and recoveries, traffic enforcement, and spent a lot of time targeting drug dealing locations. I also have experience in court preparation, testifying, and prosecuting cases."
"If I am elected constable I will be an active constable and patrol the roads in the district and answer calls when the community needs help. I will focus on drug crimes, home burglaries and robberies that continue to happen in our community. I believe the drug problem has a lot to do with the thefts. I hope the people of the second district will give me the opportunity to be there for them and be there constable.
I want to hear about the community concerns and ideas people may have about the constable position and encourage people to call me anytime 423-608-1659/423-613-8391 or email me at votewright4constable@gmail.com. Please vote for Derek Eugene Wright for Second District Constable on August 5, 2010."
