Bobby Ray Ragan
Died: 01-25-2005 Bobby Ray Ragan, age 68, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Baptist Hospital West in Knoxville.
Bobby will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and also an avid sports fan. He coached football, basketball, baseball, and softball for over 45 years, and was still coaching basketball with his daughter.
He was a TSSAA sports official for 30 years. He enjoyed bowling for a number of years where he also helped with the youth league. He was a fan of Walters State basketball where he operated the score clock for several years.
He was an active member of Swannsylvania Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver “Dan” Ragan and Eula Mae Ottinger Ragan, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Oscar “Huffy” Farmer and Ollie Hurst Farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 46 1/2 years, Jayne Ann Farmer Ragan, of Newport; daughter and son-in-law, Jayna and Mike Webb, of Dandridge; sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Kathy Ragan, of Newport, and Gary and Kathy Ragan, of Knoxville; sister and brother-in-law, Selma Sue and Charles Solomon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Doris Farmer, of Newport; four grandchildren, Corey and Casey Ragan and Leslie and Callie Webb; also several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Hensley, Rev. Alvin Watts, and Rev. Tom Mooty officiating.
Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2005, in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Towsend, Tenn.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
