Alga Teague Watts, of Newport passed away October 15, 2007, age 95. A native of Cocke County, she was the middle child of twelve children born to John Franklin and Amanda Black Teague. All have preceded her in death except one sister, Lucile Hayes of Newport. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Benjamin J Watts and a daughter, Amanda Augusta. Living to cherish her memory are her children; Emma (Ron) Lane of Dunwoody, GA, Alvin (Jean) Watts of Newport, B.J. (Jan) Watts of Louisville, KY, Jerry (Linda) Watts of Newport, and Rebecca (Phillip) Kindred of New Market, TN. Grandchildren, Claire Santuae, Scott Lane, Paige Felter, Kathy Ragan, Ben Watts, Beth Cruz, Rachel Livesay, Melissa Campbell, Dan Watts, Ricky Watts, Chad Watts, Jamie Watts, Robert Kindred and Michael Kindred. She has 27 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews, five sisters-in-laws, one brother-in-law and many good friends and neighbors. Mrs. Watts and husband Ben were instrumental in starting the Riverview Mission which later became Riverview Baptist Church. In her life she crafted over 100 quilts, most of which are cherished by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverview Baptist Church, 644 River Street, Newport, TN 37821. The family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home on Thursday, October 18th from 5-7 pm. A service celebrating her life will follow the receiving of friends. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19th at Union Cemetery in Newport. Manes Funeral Home Newport is in charge.
