WILSON, MRS. FLORA (JEAN VICK) KIRBY - age 91 of Newport, born March 16, 1917, passed away Friday evening February 27, 2009 at Baptist Hospital of Cocke Co. Jean was born and raised in the Fowler's Grove community. She worked for many years as a beautician in Knoxville. She and her husband, G.W. Kirby, were avid fox hunters and old harp singers in the 50's and 60's. After her husband's death, she moved to Georgia where she worked until her retirement. Always desiring a high school diploma, she returned to school and graduated at the age of 79. Jean also served as a foster grandparent at NGS for several years. Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, G.W. Kirby and Bruce Wilson; her parents, Edd and Lillie Vick; sisters, Glenna and Bernice Vick, Willie Kate Allen and Nelle Gibson. She is survived be her sister, Beatrice Vick Moore of Parrottsville; brother and wife, Jim and Bobbie Linderman of Parrottsville; nieces and nephews, Eddie and Sue Allen of Russellville, Tom and Sandra Allen of Newport, Annette and Sherrel Ottinger, Joyce Moore and Vickie Moore all of Parrottsville; special nephew and wife, Robert and Linda Allen of Newport; several great and great-great nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening March 1, 2009, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Robert Allen and Rev. Bobbie Dunsford officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Union Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. interment. At the time of her death, Jean was the oldest member of Fowler's Grove United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the cemetery fund at Fowler's Grove.
