L. V. Smith, age 82, of Greene County, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital in Greeneville. He was a resident of Life Care Center of Greeneville.
He was born and raised in Greene County and was a lifelong farmer. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion in Newport, TN.
Mr. Smith was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and had close relations with Oven Creek United Methodist Church. He was a devoted grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Herbert and Scottie Smith and one grandson Heath Smith, all of Parrottsville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Essie Smith and wife Imogene Hawk Smith.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2011, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jack Wilder and the Rev. Bobby Dunford officiated. Interment followed in Luther Memorial Cemetery.
The family received friends on Sunday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Clyde Ottinger, Rocky Ottinger, Rick Younce, Kent Nease, Ronnie Rader, and Charles Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Smith, Fred Ottinger, and Steve Balch.
