Smith seeks re-election to CLB Third District post
Norman Smith has announced his candidacy for the Cocke County Legislative Body in the Third district.
Smith attended Centerview Elementary School and graduated from Cocke County High School in 1983. He then attended Walters State Community College. He is currently the Product Service Manager for Berkline LLC, where he have worked 22 years.
Smith's wife Robin works as a teacher's assistant at Parrottsville Elementary. They have been blessed with three beautiful girls, Brittany, who is freshman at CCHS, Haley a seventh grader at Parrottsville, and Hannah a third grader also at Parrottsville.
"The Lord has blessed us with opportunity to lift up his name in song as the Smith Family, which we stay busy doing during the year along with my dad Tommy," said Smith.
"I feel very honored and privileged to have been able to serve and represent the people in the 3rd district the last 4 years. I am again asking for another term as the Post 1, 3rd District CLB member.
"The last 4 years have gone by very fast. In this time I have been able to get Bybee Rd. on the grant list for a new waterline and I am currently working to get the Briar Thicket and Glendale area on the same list. I have also been able to help the Centerview Fire Department with new fire hydrants and other requests they have had.
"I've served on the county finance committee the last 4 years. This is where I have been able to help cut some of what I feel is wasteful spending and have helped balance budgets that many thought were impossible without tax increases.
"I understand how tough it has been economically on everyone in the county. That's why it is more important than ever for the county government to be held accountable for every tax dollar spent. I feel as though I have done that."
Smith added, "I look forward to working with the next mayor of our county in trying to make Cocke County more appealing to new businesses. We must work together in trying to bring jobs to our area.
"As anyone who has followed county government can tell you, I am not shy about voicing my concerns and opinions and have never failed to vote and stand up for what I thought was best for the folks in the 3rd district and all of Cocke County. Because of this, I have not always been the most popular member of the CLB or county government. However, as I stated in my first campaign for the office, I don't work for the county. Therefore, I have no conflict of interest and the only obligations I have are to God and the people of my district and I take both obligations very serious.
In conclusion, Smith said, "My only promise to the folks in the 3rd district is that I will do my best to serve and represent them to the very best of my ability and to be a voice for them in county government. I know that now, more than ever, people feel as though the government doesn't care about what they think or feel. I have always been willing to listen to anyone whether they are in my district or not voice their concerns about county business. When people have asked me questions, they may not have always like the answer I gave them, but at least they got the truth and knew how I stood on the issue.
"I know that time will not allow me to personally meet with everyone. However, I humbly ask for your vote and prayers. As always, if I can be of assistance to anyone please feel free to call me."
