    Notes:

    The 1860 census of Shippensburg lists John Mateer farmer aged 30 with wife
    Susan aged 29 and children Nannie aged 4, Alfred aged 2 and Margaret aged six
    months. They were living next door to John Stough aged 38 years.

    In the 1880 census of Shippensburg John B. Mateer aged 50 years was listed as a
    retired grocer; his household had his wife Susan also aged 50 and their three
    children, Alfred a laborer aged 22, Margaret aged 19, and Robert aged 17.

    Robert Mateer was appointed Administrator of the Estate of John B. Mateer of
    Shippensburg, who died 28 November 1895; bond was for $7000.
