    Alexander learned saddlery. After his father's death he went to Perry County, Pennsylvania, accompanied by his mother and two sisters. They first resided in Landisburg and afterwards in Ickesburg, in both places, Mr. Barns worked at his trade.

    An Alexander Barns is listed in the 1840 Landisburg Borough, Perry County, Pennsylvania Census page 361 and 1850 in Saville Township, page 311.
