    U.S. Post Office in 1858 to carry the mail from Sevierville, Sevier County,
    Tennessee to Cashier's Valley, North Carolina. He made the trip by horseback
    once a week.

    Joel S. Conner and his family were listed inthe 1850 Federal Census of Haywood
    County, North Carolina; 1860 and 1870 Federal Census of Jackson County, North
    Carolina; and 1880 Federal Census of Swain County, North Carolina.
