    Notes:

    Henry Brown was a man of adventure, a bear hunter and trader. He came west and settled first in Buncombe County, North Carolina in the Sandy Mush section. Later he sold out and came to Haywood County, North Carolina and sought the wilds of the Cold Springs section of what is now Fine's Creek Township. Later he bought a place on Martin's Creek where he died. The home is still known as the "Granny Brown Farm" where Henry's widow continued to live and rear her family.

    I Jeremiah Brown of Haywood County NC do solemnly swear that Henry Brown is dead without having made any last will and testament and that I will well and truly administer upon all and singular the good and chattles lands and tenements of the said deceased according to law so help me God. signed Jeremiah Brown sworn to this the 13th day of Feb 1880."
