Notes: Affectionately called "Preacher Dick", he was received into the White Oak Flats Baptist Church in October of 1839 "by experience". In October of 1843, he was granted the right "to exercise a public gift wherever his lot Should be Cast." He was ordained at the church on the 27th of October 1846 "through the assistance of Brothers Isaac Kimbro and Eli Roberts as presbytery..." (Church minutes book of White Oak Flats Baptist Church).
