Notes: lthough of an age when he did not have to serve in the Civil War, James S. Ownby was reluctant for his oldest son, John Ownby, to serve alone. So he enlisted with his son in the Union Army in Company A, 6th Tennessee Infantry and in Company B, 2nd Tennessee Cavalry. James married Sophia Evans Abt 1843, , Sevier County, Tennessee.
