2. | George Washington Maples was born 1829, Tennessee (son of William Abijah Maples and Elizabeth McMahan); died 12 Apr 1892; was buried Banner Cemetery, Gatlinburg, Sevier County, Tennessee. Notes: Serving the Union Army during the Civil War, George Washington enlisted 16 September 1862 Sevierville, Tennessee in Company I, 2nd Tennessee Cavalry. He received a "gunshot wound of right hand at the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee 2nd January 1863." He was discharged 7 December 1864 at Madisonville, Indiana.
