Joan Ogle Hill, age 75, passed away at UT Hospital Wednesday, September 12, 2012. She was born in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. on May 23, 1937, to Harry Willis Ogle and Estalee Sims Ogle. Joan was a graduate of Sevier County High School in 1955. Afterward, she attended Tennessee Wesleyan College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, sang with the Tennessee Wesleyan Choir, and was crowned Miss Tennessee Wesleyan. She obtained her B.S. in nursing from Columbia University in New York City in 1962 and worked as a nurse at Columbia University Hospital until 1965. From 1965 to 1999, she was clinical director of critical care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. She married Jack Hill on October 16, 1970, and spent their lives together in South Knoxville. Following retirement, she cared for her parents as well as her sister-in-law, Frances Hill, for the remainder of their lives. She was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. Joan’s career and hobbies centered on serving others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Estalee Ogle; brother, Jerry Ogle; husband, Jack Hill and nephew, Troy Ogle. She is survived by her son, Jack Hill; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Rebecca Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Jane Ogle; special sister, Linda Ogle; uncle and aunt, Robert and Fern Sims; aunts, Wilma Woods and Ruby Fox. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers: Stella Nowrocka and Linda Lonas. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. with funeral service at 7:30 p.m. at Colonial Heights Methodist Church. In honor of her nursing career, scrubs and uniforms are welcome at the services. Family and friends will gather at Pigeon Forge Cemetery on Monday, September 17, 2012, at 10:45 a.m. for an 11 a.m. interment service. Condolences may be offered at http://www.berryfuneralhome.com
