Joseph Melton Younce, age 75, of Torrence Lane, Lenoir, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Camelot Manor Nursing Facility. He was born January 13, 1938 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late David Gilson and Margaret Mae Barr Younce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Candy Mathis; grandson, Paul Younce; brother, D. G. Younce; and sister, Novella Williams. Mr. Younce was retired from Caldwell County Schools. He was a member of Nazareth Advent Christian Church, where he enjoyed attending all the church activities. He was also a Veteran of the United States Marines. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Delores Huskey Younce of the home; one son, Joel Younce and wife Donna of Lenoir; one daughter, Crystal James of Lenoir; step-son, Tim Clark and wife Pam of Mooresville; step-daughter, Cindy Carswell of Morganton; grandchildren, Sarah Younce, Jennifer Younce and Starla Huffman; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his faithful companion Cory. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Nazareth Advent Christian Church conducted by Rev. Scott Philyaw and Rev. Ronnie Pritchard. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be: Kyle Carswell, Steven Sheridan, Zack Trivette, Wayne Duggins, Bill Price and Doug Davis.
