VESS , FRANKIE - age 93, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at Alterra Sterling House, Maryville. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for 62 years. Also former president of South Knoxville Young at Heart Club and member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by husband James A. Vess sons, Kenneth and Jesse Hughes and 20 brothers and sisters, She is survived by step daughter, Pearl King grandchildren, Joe King, Carl E. and Joy King, Byron and Patty Walker great grandchildren, Leslie King, Kelly and Nick Blankenship, Shannon and Misty King, David and Sharon Walker and Amy McDaniel great-great grandchildren, Beth and Joey Blakenship, Alex, William and Joseph Walker, Jill and Carson King and Carlie McDaniel. The family wants to express their appreciation to the loving staff at Alterra Sterling House. Family and friends will meet 2 p.m. on Saturday, Mt. Olive Cemetery, for graveside services with Rev. James Pitts officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Hospice, P.O. Box 22, Knoxville, Tenn. 37901 or to Salvation Army, 409 N.
