Shannon Otis “Ode” Williams, age 89 of Gatlinburg, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2007. He retired from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1978 and pastored seven churches as an ordained minister. He was a member of Maples Branch Baptist Church.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns, receiving five bronze campaign stars. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, marched through France in General George S. Patton’s 3rd Army, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. Among the recognition he received were the World War II Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, one Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, the Expert Infantry Badge, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, and the American Defense Medal. In 2001, he received a certificate from France for the liberation of France. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
He was a life charter member and past post commander of Post #94 of the Disabled American Veterans and was a life member of American Legion Post # 202 in Gatlinburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Gertrude Elzora Trentham Williams, siblings Joel Misher, Mary Williams, William R.T. Williams, Isaac Newton Williams, Walker Winford Williams, Mollie Amona Williams, David Clyde Williams, Eli Ralph Williams, and Mabel Williams.

Sisters-in-law: Marie, Jeanette, and Frances Williams
Special sisters-in-law: Ethel and Ruth Ownby

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sevier County Public Library System Building Fund, 321 Court Avenue, Sevierville, TN 37862.
Funeral service 7 PM Friday in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Ball officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Saturday in Cartertown Cemetery for interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post #104.
