Jeffery Scott Russell, age 36, of Newport, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001. He attended the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Garfield and Eula Ramsey, and Steven and Eula Russell; one nephew and one niece. He attended Walter State Police Academy and Donelson Police Academy for the D.A.R.E. Program. He was a former deputy and was the county’s first D.A.R.E. Officer; taught at the Police Academy at Walter State Community College; former employee of the First Baptist Church, which he enjoyed, and was an avid sportsman. He is survived by his wife, Lorinda Smith Russell, of Newport; parents, Hugh and Barbara Russell, of Newport; son, Christopher Russell, of Newport; daughter, Stephanie Russell, of Newport; brothers, Hugh Wm. Russell, of Cherokee, NC, Calvin Wayne Russell, of Lima, Ohio, and Rick Russell, of Cosby; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held 2 p.m., Friday, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Rich Lloyd and Rev. Robert Williamson officiating, with burial in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Thursday, at Manes Funeral Home. For those who wish memorials may be made to the building fund at the First Baptist Church.
