Mamie Dykes Julian, 87, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, in a local hospital.She was born in Newport, Tenn. She was the daughter of Roland Dykes Sr. and Oray Dawkins Dykes.She was a graduate of Clark College and a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.Mamie was a faithful member of Wiley United Methodist Church, a soloist in the church choir, and member of several clubs for more than 30 years.She moved to Chattanooga to help her uncle, Dewitts Dykes with the duties of Wiley United Methodist Church where she met and married John H. Julian Jr. and started a family. She was a teacher of home economics, biology and chemistry in the Chattanooga Public Schools for more than 20 years before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her father, Roland Dykes Sr.; mother, Oray Dawkins Dykes; husband, John H. Juan Jr.; sisters, Bernice Banks, Nettie Sue Swaggerty, Marian Berry; brother, Roland Dykes Jr.; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dykes; brothers-in-law, Bob Saunders and Mervin Barton. She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Raychelle Julian; son, John Henry Dykes Julian; grandchildren, Jeontae L. Johnson, Cornelius D. Julian and Jessica Heather Julian; great-grandchild, Ameer Isaiah Robinson; sisters, Della Saunders and Essie Barton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at the Trammell Chapel with Rev Donald Daniels officiating.Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Omega Omega Service will be at 5 p.m. today in the Trammell Chapel.The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. today in the Trammell Chapel.The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Trammell Chapel, Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.
