(March 5, 1936 - September 24, 2016)
U.S. Veteran George D. Singleton, age 80 of Cosby, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016. He was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Army. He devoted his life to God, his country, family, and his church. He stood fast in his beliefs never faltering. He was a faithful member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon for more than twenty years, where he greeted every one with a smile and handshake at each service. For many years he owned his own auto body shop where he had repaired countless automobiles always taking pride in his work to do the best he could as working for the lord. He never backed down from anything he could help anyone with a true friend to many. Always a good example to his children and grandchildren. We will never know just how many lives will be touched by his devotion as he lived according to Matthew 5:16 Let your life so shine before men that they may see you good works, and glorify you father which is in Heaven. He leaves behind a legacy of serving God as a true and faithful Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. Singleton and Hattie White Singleton; brothers, Lloyd Rollins and Charles Singleton; sisters, Ella Mae Gregg and Evelyn Hogan; son-in-law, Michael Cushman; and grandson, Daniel Cushman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janette Brown Singleton; son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Melissa Singleton of Burlington, North Carolina; daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and Sam Tani of Sevierville, Tennessee, Marie and Brian Etherton of Maplewood, Ohio, and Sherri and Jimmy Bradley of Sevierville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Singleton of Burlington North Carolina, Tabatha Etherton and fiancé, Brad Teague of Sidney, Ohio, Kaleigh and Jordan Ferguson of Sevierville, Tennessee, Hannah and Thomas Deford of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Elijah Bradley of Sevierville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, D.J. Ferguson, Herman Dewey Etherton, Camden Singleton, and Lily Ferguson; sister, Ivery Singleton of Newport; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
