Twin sisters enjoy special Mother’s Day
BY DUAY O’NEIL
BASINGER HOLLOW—On February 17, 1932, the late Burgett and Bessie (Moore) Holt welcomed twin daughters, Juanita and Loretta, into their home.
In 1936 Burgett and Bessie purchased a small farm on the upper end of Basinger Road in the Parrottsville community, and it was here that the little girls grew to maturity.
The girls entered Basinger Elementary School, one of many one- and two-room schools dotting Cocke County’s countryside in the era.
They also attended Basinger Chapel Baptist Church where Burgett served as church trustee for several years and helped rebuild the church when the older log school/church building was razed in 1950.
This past Mother’s Day was very special for the twins, now 81 years of age.
Juanita celebrated the arrival of two babies marking ? ve generations in her family, while Loretta welcomed the fourth generation to her family.
Juanita lived most of her life in Cleveland and Brunswick, Ohio, where she owned a beauty shop. She now has two children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and most recently two great-great-grandchildren. After retirement, she returned to Tennessee and now lives in the Dandridge area.
The newest babies were actually due two weeks apart, but in the way of things, arrived within 27 hours of each other, Madeline Yvonne Stella Farley on May 4, and Denver Michael Farley on May 3.
Michael is the son of Rachel Farley of Clinton, Ohio, while Madeline, who will be called ‘Maddie’, was born in Tennessee. She is the daughter of Shane and Hillary (Alexander) Leatherwood, who reside in Kodak.
Loretta now resides in Maryville and is retired from Levi’s. The newest member of her family is Bryna Baird, daughter of Dallas and Katie Baird.
On Mother’s Day, those gathering with Loretta included her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and John McCulloch, granddaughters Katie (Dallas) Baird, Laura (Frank) Gerdig), and Barbara McCulloch, and great-granddaughter Bryna Baird.
At Juanita’s on Mother’s Day, were her daughter and son-in-law Shirley Briggs (George) Athey, granddaughter Rhonda Tulford, great-grandson Shane (Hillary Alexander) Farley, greatgranddaughter Rachel Farley, and great-great-grandchildren Maddie Farley and Denver Farley, along with Connie Leatherwood and James and Debbie Alexander.
