Saundra Carol Walker Kennedy , 61, of Newton, N.C., departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, July 21, 2006, at her home.
She was born May 6, 1945, in Maryville. She was the daughter of the late Harold Samuel Walker, of Hickory, N.C., and Mrs. Geraldine C. Walker, of Hickory, N.C.
She was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, Hickory, N.C. Saundra was a homemaker, wife and mother. She also taught kindergarten at Badin Elementary School, Badin, N.C. She was a Girl Scout of the USA, working her way through the scout program of 4 levels. Starting as a Brownie and receiving the GS Silver Award and the GS Gold Award, and becoming a Cadetta Girl Scout. She was a scout leader in Badin, N.C. She was a former member of Badin Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Olin Kennedy , of the home; daughters: Marta Leigha Starnes and her husband, Mitchell David Starnes, of Conover, N.C., Heather Elaine Vasquez, of Conover, N.C.; grandchildren: Patrick David Starnes and Marta Brianna Starnes, of Conover, N.C., Gabriela Vasquez, of Conover, N.C.; sister: Donna E. Walker, of Maryville; brothers: Samuel J. Walker and wife, Terry, of Seymour, Barry D. Walker, of Hickory, N.C., Kelly J. Walker and wife, Sylvia, of Hickory, N.C., Tracy Walker, of Hickory, N.C.; a number of aunts and uncles, of Maryville; and a number of nieces and nephews of Maryville.
Pallbearers will be from the American Legion, Post 16, Newton, N.C. Family members, the Ron Watson family members and other close friends may serve as Honorary Pallbearers to the Kennedy family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 3702 16th Street, NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why.
