SHELL, KENNETH RAY - age 73, of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at the Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital. He was a member and deacon of the Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from the Lock-Heed Martin Marietta Energy Systems, with 24 years of service. He also served in the United States Air Force, from 1949 to 1951. Mr. Shell was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Minnie Loveday Shell and brothers, J. C. Shell and Wayne Shell. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bettie Walker Shell; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Karla Shell; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Cantrell; grandchildren, Christopher and Emily Cantrell; step grandchildren, Brandon, Damon, and Summer Morell, and Gaby Deaderick; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willie C. Shell, Elmo G. and Jewell Shell, and Pete Shell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie Huff of Arizona, Mable Nichols, Lucille Johnson, Jean and Ralph Hatley, all of Florida, Mary Troy Painter, Carolyn and Charles Cook of Kentucky, Jama Russell, and Sue and Robert Ramsey. Beloved sisters-in-law, Mildred Zimmerman, Mary Taylor, Evelyn and husband Elmer Carr, and a host of nieces and nephews in many other states. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Piney Grove Cemetery. The family will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer's Research at U. T. Hospital, 9000 Executive Park Drive, Building D, Suite 230, Knoxville, TN 37923, or to the Piney Grove Church Building Fund. Weaver Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
