U.S. Veteran Robert C. (Bob) Renner, born in Cocke County on March 16, 1932 entered his heavenly home on August 26, 2008. Bob loved God, his family and his county. He served in the United States Air Force and later in the National Guard. He was a faithful member of Bridgeport Freewill Baptist Church and his church family was very important to him.
Bob worked for many years at American Enka. He owned the Flavorich distributorship and was known ad the “milkman” for 25 years. After his retirement, he worked briefly for ETHRA. When health permitted, Bob enjoyed camping, trout fishing and hunting. His other hobby was talking. He never met a stranger!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Pauline Poe Renner and his father and mother-in-law, Charlie and Ida Parker Hayes.
He will be remembered by his loving family, wife of 55 years, Theda Hayes Renner, daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Lonnie Jones, Anita and Jimmy Gorrell, sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Angel Renner and Donnie and Rose Renner, all of Newport. He is survived by his only sister and her husband Willa Dean and William Ellison. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren, Brad (Jacqulyn) Jones of Hermitage, TN, Seth Jones, Newport, step-grandchildren, Josh Gorrell, Eric Gorrell, Jason Gorrell all of Newport, PFC Christopher Hillman, recently deployed to the Middle East, Casey Hillman, Yuma, AZ, Pvt. William Timmons, Fort Sills, OK, and Harley Timmons, Newport. He had seven step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and their families, Rita (Billy Dale) Ball, Debbie (Carl) Hurst and Mike (Brenda) Ellison.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 29, 2008 at Bridgeport Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Hal Kirk, Bob’s beloved friend and Rev. Tim Carson will conduct the service. Bob will lie in state from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church prior to the funeral. Graveside services will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, with L/Cpl Charles C. Roberts DAV Chapter 102 conducting military rites. Although our hearts are saddened and our lives are forever changed, we rejoice that he is at home with God.
