MAXEY, JAN EVELYN - age 48 of Knoxville, left the hand of her mother, Joyce Van Der Wiele, after a courageous battle with cancer at Ft. Sanders hospital. She was greeted into the loving arms of her grandmother, Evelyn Williams and grandparents, Ruby and Horace Maxey in Heaven on Thursday, December 31, 2009. The family greatly appreciates the loving care provided by the Thompson Cancer Center and Ft. Sanders hospital staffs. Jan attended West Hills Baptist Church since childhood. She graduated from Bearden High School in 1979 and briefly attended Bryan College in Dayton, TN and U.T. Knoxville. She became the assistant manager at Pizza Hut on Bearden hill for many years. Her food service career ended when she became ill while working at Ruby Tuesdays on Lovell Road. She will be deeply missed by her siblings, Jason, Scott, and Julianne Maxey; her step-father, Clarence "Clix" Van Der Wiele; her father, Stephen Maxey; her aunt and uncle, Myra and Wayne Clabough and cousins, Angela Adams and Paris Clabough. The family will receive friends at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Monday, January 4. A service will follow at 7:30 with Rev. John E. Pennington, Jr. officiating. Interment will be on Tuesday, January 5, at 2:00 pm at Edgewood Cemetery, 229 Galleher View Rd. Memorial donations may be made to Thompson Cancer Survival Center, 1915 White Ave, Knoxville, TN 37916.
